I've been a Barefoot Books Ambassador for 2 1/2 years now, and I tell people all the time it's the most fun job I've ever had! I joke that it's like getting to do all the fun stuff a preschool teacher gets to do, without having to deal with poop emergencies and discipline issues.

If there's anything I value as much as the fun of my job, it's the flexibility. When my son was an infant, I did my work when he was asleep or when my mother could help with babysitting. Now that he's in half day preschool, I've expanded my business without taking away more time from my family. I love getting to decide when and how I want to work.

Kids Storytime Parties =  Life-Changing Fun

My favorite part of my business is doing storytimes with children, whether these are at preschools or in my hosts' homes with their friends. Sometimes we dance and shake with singalongs like The Animal Boogie. Sometimes we read a funny story like The Prince's Breakfast (about a little royal who refuses to eat anything but hot chocolate and dry toast.) Sometimes we take a trip around the world with a book like Lin Yi's Lantern to explore the Moon Festival in China. No matter what we do, I can see books truly coming to life for the children who are in front of me. After the parties, I hear so often from parents who tell me that one of the books they purchased has become their child's absolute favorites. I love knowing I'm a small part of building a life-long love of books in these children's lives.

Barefoot Books' Ambassador Program is Truly Family Friendly

I love that my three year old understands and is part of "Mommy selling books." He's always the first person to try out new releases, and the books he loves most are my top recommendations to my customers. Sometimes he's even able to come with me to my events, like this book fair fundraiser that I did at his preschool. Our annual Ambassador conference includes a family picnic that he had a blast at!

Barefoot Books Generous Comp Plan Means Real Income For Our Family

As Mary Christensen, a leading direct sales trainer, shared at our 2014 conference, Barefoot Books has one of the most generous compensation plans in the direct selling industry. The summer before last, I made it my goal to pay for our family's entire vacation to Boston from my Barefoot Books income, and even though I work part-time, I was able to achieve my goal in just a few months. (By the way if you're a book nerd like me, Boston is such a fun place to vacation! We loved riding the swans boats that are featured in the classic Make Way for Ducklings and visiting the home of Louisa May Alcott.)

Barefoot Books is a small but rapidly growing company, and our Ambassador community is close knit! Not only have I received fantastic support from my team leader, but our home office staff and Ambassadors who are not even part of my team have offered me so much support. Any competition among Ambassadors is friendly, and we all want to see each others' businesses grow. As my own team has grown, I've learned so much from the women who I am sponsoring.

Training That's Easy to Understand and Implement

I came to the Barefoot Books Ambassador program without any kind of sales background. Our home office offers a host of different training resources, from our annual conference to live webinars to recordings and an Ambassador only blog. I love that the trainings available to us cover sales, securing bookings and team building, but they don't stop there. We also have literacy trainings and in-depth looks into new releases so we can figure out which children each book is the best fit for. At our 2015 conference, I loved the fun and fast-paced storytelling training by author Xanthe Gresham (pictured below.)

I Love Free Stuff!

On top of the income that I earn from Barefoot, I have earned so many fantastic prizes in sales and sponsoring challenges! Recently, I won this stand up banner, which is perfect for making my booth at community events eye-catching and professional looking.

Other prizes I've earned include books signed by the author, video equipment, vouchers for outside training, and oh yeah, a free trip to France! (Do I look relaxed riding this carousel in Toulouse?)
