Promote Literacy at Your School with an Easy to Host Barefoot Books Fair

The Kind of Books You Want Students to Read

If you're new to the independent children's book publisher Barefoot Books, let me tell you a little about what I think makes our award-winning books stand out. All of our books, even chapter books for older elementary students, contain gorgeous full-color illustrations. We know that art is key in bringing a story to life for children, so that their love for reading grows. Many of our books are drawn from cultures from all around the world, allowing teachers and parents to take children on a trip around the globe without ever leaving the storytime circle.

At Barefoot Books, we believe in building on the intelligence and imagination that children already possess, so our books, even for the youngest readers, don't talk down to children. Finally, because childhood is precious and literacy is vital, our books are non-commercial. You won't have to worry about children begging for a matching bedspread that goes with one of our book characters. That's why the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood recommends Barefoot Books as a book fair vendor.

At elementaries, preschools, and daycares that host a Barefoot Books fair, teachers often have difficulty making their classroom wishlists, because there are so many books that they want to enrich their classroom learning!

The Kind of Book Fairs That Make Things Easy for You

Display from a small preschool book fair. Each fair is tailored to the needs of the school.

If your school is located in the Memphis area, I will set up and take down all the books for you. In many cases, I am also able to present at the school to take orders, freeing your staff and parents to do what they would normally do during the school day. At some schools I offer special story and music times during the week of the book fair. Teachers are able to make wishlists ahead of the book fair, so that I can order the exact books you most want to have in your classrooms.

I offer a variety of book fair formats, from multiple day fairs to one day events built around a gathering your school is already having, such as a family literacy night or grandparents day. An online option is also available to supplement your in person fair for families with complex schedules.

To learn more about a Barefoot Books fair for your school or daycare, or to set up a time to view a selection of our books, email me or call me (Rebekah Gienapp) at (901) 212-6309. Thank you for considering my locally-owned small business to meet your school's book fair needs!
